Welcome to Hurlston Hall Monthly!
October is here, and with it comes another busy month at Hurlston Hall. With autumn in full swing, it’s a wonderful time to enjoy the course, take part in our upcoming competitions, and make the most of our lively calendar of social events.
From golf highlights to club news and seasonal gatherings, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know for the month ahead. Settle in and see what’s in store at Hurlston Hall this October!
Key Dates & Upcoming Events
An Exclusive Evening with Billy Foster on Friday 17th October
Billy Foster, legendary golf caddie and Talk Sport presenter has worked alongside some of the games greatest names in world of golf, Seve Ballesteros, Tiger Woods, Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood, Matt Fitzpatrick and most recently Collin Morikawa and will share incredible insights, behind-the-scenes stories, and plenty of humour from his years on tour. This promises to be an unforgettable night for golf lovers.
Tickets are just £45 per person and include food plus an exclusive Q&A. On the night, there’ll also be a charity raffle and auction!
Golf Members are welcome to book in for a round between 12:00 – 2:00pm ahead of the evening event, please visit the Golf Shop to confirm a tee-time.
Non-members, guests, and visitors can also enjoy the afternoon by purchasing a combined ticket at £70.00, which includes both a round of golf from 12:00pm and the Q&A. Once purchased, please contact chris.walton@hurlstonhall.co.uk to confirm your tee time.

A Night with Billy Foster
The OBG Trophy – Friday 24th October
The OBG Trophy will take place on Friday 24th October. This much-anticipated annual competition promises a great day of golf and friendly rivalry.
The format will be a Team 4-ball competition, with each team comprising of 1 member of staff and 3 members. The competition will be a Shotgun Start, Texas Scramble format, ensuring all teams tee off together and finish together before an evening meal and prize presentation.
There are still a few spaces left which can be booked via IntelligentGolf through the competitions page.
Murder Mystery Night - Friday 10th October
Back again after popular request is the Murder Mystery Night. Step into a night of intrigue and suspense at The View's Murder Mystery event. Enjoy hot bowls of delicious food, expert storytellers, and live entertainment as you unravel the clues and solve the mystery. A thrilling experience perfect for those who love drama, suspense, and a touch of detective work!

CHRISTMAS STARTS HERE SATURDAY 29TH NOVEMBER
The festive season is just around the corner, and what better way to get it underway than with our Christmas Starts Here celebration!
On Saturday 29th November, we’ll be hosting a night full of festive spirit, laughter, and good company. It promises to be a fantastic exclusive evening for members and their families to come together, enjoy the atmosphere, and start the countdown to Christmas in style.

LADIES AUTUMN PLATE
The Autumn Plate was played on Sunday 7th September and was won by Fiona Roach with a score of 36. Congratulation Fiona.
SCARISBRICK TROPHY
Congratulations to Nick Lewis, with a winning score of 42 points for the Scarisbrick Trophy.
RED ROSE LEAGUE
The Red Rose Team, captained by Owen McCann, finished second to Longridge in the Red Rose League this season. Congratulations to all the members who took part this year to represent Hurlston Hall, Well Done!

Course Facilities Update Routine maintenance will continue as normal. Greens Maintenance is taking place from 29th September until 3rd October. Friday 3rd October Black Course Competition has been cancelled due to the essential work.
Buggy Status All buggies are fully operational and may be reserved through the Golf Shop in advance of your round. Early booking is recommended to ensure availability.
Membership Notices
Update: New Morning Tee Times from October 1st
From Wednesday, 1st October, the first tee time will be at 7:36am. This adjustment is in line with sunrise and allows our greenkeeping team extra time each morning to carefully assess and prepare the course for play. Saturday competition's will start at the new time of 8:00am.
PAST CAPTAIN'S HOLE-IN-ONE
On Friday, 26th September, our past Lady Captain, Jane Sarhan, gave us all a moment to remember. While out for a round of golf, Jane achieved the ultimate surprise, her very first Hole-in-One on the 16th! A huge congratulations to Jane on this incredible milestone.
Important Reminder: Don’t Forget Your Member’s Card!
Please remember to present your Member’s Card whenever you visit the Scullery Bar, Restaurant, or Golf Shop.
This ensures you:
Receive your member discount,
Can use any credit on your card,
If you don’t show your card to staff, your bill will be charged at full price.
So, keep your card handy and make the most of your membership benefits!
Guest Passes To use your complimentary guest green fee passes, please call the Golf Shop directly to book, this ensures you won’t be charged during booking.
November Membership Renewals
Membership renewal notices for November have now been emailed. Please check your inbox (and don’t forget to look in your junk folder just in case).
Need to make changes? If you’d like to update your details or membership, please contact the Golf Services Manager by Monday 27th October.
Payment Options
If you pay your membership in full, we kindly ask that payment is received by Sunday 26th October to avoid any disruption to your membership.
The easiest way to renew is via the IG App, simply click the blue banner and follow the steps to make a payment.
Alternatively, payment can be made by BACS or at the Golf Shop till.
Direct Debit Members – no action is required, your membership will renew automatically.

Member Spotlight
This month in our Member Spotlight, we sat down with Catherine Simmonds, who’s been part of Hurlston Hall since 2021.
You'll all know Cathy from behind the bar, but there’s plenty more to learn about her — from work to her golf journey!
Q. How long have you been a member of the golf club?
Cathy: I've been playing golf for 3 years now.
Q. Do you have a favourite hole on the course and why?
Cathy: 13th hole love the open fairway, the 15th for the views, & the 18th because I can see the clubhouse & know a wine is not far away.
Q. What would be your dream as a golfer?
Cathy: Becoming a scratch golfer & my numerous holes in one.
Q. Are you more about competition or do you prefer a relaxed social game?
Cathy: Relaxed social game.
Q. Who do you enjoy playing with most at the club, and why?
Cathy: Going out with lots of different players. Playing with Heather, Karen & Rachel keeping the laughs going.
Q. Since you also work in the bar, what’s your favourite part about serving members and guests off the course?
Cathy: I love working in the bar, the members are always polite & enjoy conversation about how my game is going. Members are always encouraging. Also enjoy a good laugh at the end of a days golfing, it doesn’t matter how you play a good pint is always welcome.
Q. Do you see many of the same faces at the bar after a round — and is there a “go-to” drink golfers tend to order?
Cathy: Guinness & San Miguel, not forgetting copious amounts of coffee.
Q. Has working in the bar given you a different perspective on the club compared to just being a golfer?
Cathy: Yes love waving to the members out on the course & then having a chat about their game in the bar.
Q. (This was provided by our last guest Heather Kenny). What's your go to meal?
Cathy: If my husband lets me choice.......Lobster.
