The Course
The golf course at Hurlston Hall is a purpose-built 18-hole parkland course set within the historic Hurlston Hall Estate in Lancashire. It was conceived in the late 1980s when the landowners sought to diversify the estate’s use, and the course officially opened in 1994 to immediate acclaim. The original layout was designed by internationally respected golf course architect Donald Steel, whose philosophy emphasised strategic play, natural contours, and harmonious integration with the surrounding landscape.
Over the years the course has matured and evolved. In 2011, experienced golf architects Tom MacKenzie and Martin Ebert (who had both worked with Steel earlier in their careers) were brought in to refine and enhance the routing and strategic elements of the layout. Their work included the addition and repositioning of bunkers and other features to sharpen the challenge and playability of the course while respecting Steel’s original vision.
Today, Hurlston Hall Golf Club continues to be valued for its thoughtful design, variety of testing golf holes, and the way its parkland setting complements the rich heritage of the estate.

High Hopes
Tough opening hole - avoiding bunkers left and right off the tee a must! An iron approach to the middle right of the green, go too far left and you’re in the brook.
